Liposuction is not a weight loss solution, it is a procedure done to help those who have tried to lose weight and could not shed the excess fat in specific areas. These particular areas have a hard time losing the weight because of genetics. Liposuction has been done for years, and many people may have some questions about the procedure, so Dr. Roussalis wanted to address the most common questions he is asked.

Where Can Liposuction Be Performed?

Liposuction can be performed on almost any part of the body! The most common areas that Dr. Roussalis has treated have been:

  • Abdomen
  • Upper arms
  • Hips
  • Lower legs
  • Thighs
  • Buttocks
  • Back
  • Neck
  • Chest
  • Jaw line
  • Cheeks

Am I a Good Candidate for Liposuction?

The ideal candidate is someone who is in good health. They are nonsmokers and are close to their ideal weight. They have tried traditional weight loss and need help to lose the weight in stubborn areas.

How Do I Prepare for This Procedure?

During your consultation with Dr. Roussalis he will explain the procedure steps and how to prepare. You will need to arrange for someone to come with you on the day of the procedure to drive you home and stay with you afterwards. Patients will need to stop taking medications such as aspirin since they thin the blood, and most patients will be instructed not to eat or drink 12 hours before surgery.

What is My Recovery Going to be Like?

Most patients are able to return to work days after the procedure. They can resume physical activity two to four weeks after, depending on where the procedure was performed. They will have minor discomfort for a few days after the procedure, but rest and hydration should help. There can be some swelling, bruising and tenderness but this will resolve as you heal.

Is There Scarring?

Dr. Roussalis uses a small skinny tube called a cannula, so the incision site will be very small, so scarring will be minimal.

Everyone’s body is different, so everyone will have a different experience. If you are interested in liposuction, schedule a consultation with Dr. Roussalis today! He can discuss your problem areas with you and find the best solution for you.
