As we age, heredity, environmental factors and gravity can catch up to our skin causing fine lines and wrinkles. Dr. Sabini uses a Matrix CO2 laser to give the skin quick bursts of light to remove skin layer by layer to reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles. The laser moves in a scanning pattern to remove the layers of the epidermis and dermis. Laser resurfacing works great on the face and the most common treatment areas are around the mouth and under the eyes.

Am I A Good Candidate?

Those with fine lines and wrinkles around the mouth and eyes, as well as those who have acne scars make great candidates for Laser Resurfacing. If you have previously had a facelift and didn’t get the final results you wished for, you can also qualify for this treatment. However, this treatment is meant for wrinkles, not stretch marks. It may also not perform well on those who have darker skin tones.

How Does it Work?

The Matrix CO2 laser has minimal heat damage and works to remove thin layers of the skin on the face. Dr. Sabini can treat small areas by numbing the area with a local anesthetic. If you wish to receive treatment on the entire face, sedation will be used. The treatment can last anywhere from thirty minutes to two hours.

Recovery

After 24 hours this area must be cleaned four to five times a day and an ointment will need to be applied to prevent scabs. Most patients see healing after 10 to 21 days, depending on how large the area is. It is normal for the skin to stay pink for three to four months, but a week after treatment patients can begin to apply makeup to the area. Therefore, the best time to get this procedure done would be in the fall or winter so your skin will be away from the sun’s harsh rays.
